I disagree that Tasmania is economically successful or has a competitive advantage. Out of all major states and territories Tasmania has the lowest GSP per capita, the second-lowest GSP overall and below-average economic growth for the country.
Also I don't really get the point of the piece - of course those artistic parts of the Tasmanian economy shouldn't replace all their business with AI but I don't think anyone is suggesting they do. But it would surely be a benefit for their economy if some Canva-level AI startup came out of Hobart.
I also very much doubt that study about AI slowing down developers. I know it speeds my own work up a lot, and if it was really so terrible why on earth would so many people be paying $200/month for Claude Code?

If Tasmania was no longer below average… wouldn’t another state have to be below average anyways?
I mean, Procreate comes from here, and is a lot more interesting than Canva, to me: https://procreate.com
